White walls and ceilings that are taken for granted in many homes.
Is that really the right answer?
In many homes, companies, and shops, white walls and white ceilings are common.
And there are dazzling lighting fixtures on the ceiling.
For us who live in such an environment, many places are based on the premise of white walls.
The white wall reflects and diffuses light, just like the reflex board effect. As a result, the space becomes dazzling and brighter.
Before the renovation, the ceiling and walls of our office were all white.
There are fluorescent lights and downlights on the ceiling, and the brightness is the same as during the day even at night.
In such a situation, the first thing I bought was Louis Paulsen's PH5.
It was hung on the lighting rail along the window, but the PH5 light was nowhere to be seen by the light from the ceiling, and although the goodness of the form of the lighting equipment was clear, the key PH5-specific light was drowned out by fluorescent lights and downlights. It was.
After that, as the lighting gradually increased with Enigma and PH Snowball, only the original downlights and pendant lights were not turned on fluorescent lights.
At first, I thought that the space was dyed in a gorgeous light bulb color and created a good atmosphere, but from the outside, the white turned orange and the interior remained bright.
At one point, I thought that the pendant light would be better if the ceiling was raised, so I peeled off the ceiling and made it a skeleton, but at night, only the ceiling part became dark, and the lights of the lighting looked very beautiful.
At that time, I realized for the first time that the non-white wall complements the original beauty of the light.
One day, I went to a newly built house under construction.
The walls of the room were all light gray wallpaper, and the white walls were familiar, creating an elegant and calm atmosphere. However, when you go on a rainy day, it shows a completely different expression. Light gray wallpaper, which is not illuminated by sunlight, looks so dark that it is mistaken for dark gray.
For those who have been living in a dazzlingly bright home where the light of the ceiling light is reflected on the white wall, it is not uncommon to be confused by the completely different indoor lights.
However, when you look at it, the light emitted from the lighting is clear, and each and every light makes you feel an indescribable emotion along with the calm atmosphere of the space.
In high-end restaurants in Europe and the United States, there is a trend that the darker the interior, the more luxurious it is,
It is also said that "a person's facial expression looks the most beautiful when it is dim and bright enough to show a faint expression."
In residences, luxury hotels, and restaurants that are said to be mansions in Japan, the walls are not limited to white, but also various colors and textures are used, and the lighting is also placed in the right place for light, so that the light source is not visible directly, and the space It is made with the atmosphere very important.
In recent years, it is also said that "a life that is too comfortable and convenient" may be a factor that makes it difficult for children's sensitivity to grow. We pay too much attention to efficiency and rationality on a daily basis, and there are places where we are too indifferent to the sources of human nature such as sensibility and emotion.
Compared to Europe and the United States, we Japanese are often said to have poor sensitivity and sensitivity, but in fact, I feel like it can be said that this kind of living environment has a great influence.
There is an image that many people with high sensitivity work in art, entertainment, and music, but not only such people have sensibility, but more or less everyone has it.
When your sensibility is rich, it is easy to feel the changes in people's feelings and hearts, and you will be happy and enjoy even casual conversations, and you will be moved by such trivial things as "the sky is beautiful" or "the shop you happened to enter was delicious", and you will naturally smile. It will be more.
It is often said that there are many smiling people in Westerners, and many people in Japanese people are expressionless, and it is often thought that it is due to cultural differences, but in fact, isn't it a difference in sensitivity from the living environment?
I think Japan is among the top in the world in terms of convenience and material richness, but how about living a happy life with it?
Compared to the past, we are indeed living a rich life, but I feel that there were more opportunities to feel "curiosity" and "anticipation" in the era when there were few things.
In order for people to be happy, I think it is most important to create an environment where people's sensibility can be developed in a balanced way, rather than seeking convenience and material wealth.
It is a "white wall" that we take for granted, but from that point of view, there are many people who feel that "is it really the right answer?"
(Afterword)
The new drama "Towako Soyuda and the Three Ex-husbands" (Kansai TV and Fuji TV) started broadcasting last night.
The home of "Hachisaku Tanaka" played by Ryuhei Matsuda is a room surrounded by veneers reminiscent of the mid-century and dark blue wallpaper. The lighting is a space that is not a glittering light illuminated from the ceiling, such as Louis Paulsen's PH80 floor lamp and a bedside table lamp. It was unusual for a TV drama, but I thought it was a reproduction of a "comfortable life with lights" suitable for the coming era.
I realized that the "new standard" would be established little by little from a place like this.
