In Praise of Shadows

Only under the faint light can you feel the traditional Japanese aesthetic sense of "wabi lyakubi". An essay by Junichiro Tanizaki, which was serialized in the magazine "Ekei Tsurai" in Showa 8, writes the scene indifferently while superimposing the scene with light and shadow.
A lamp that is indispensable to our lives. Is the modern culture, which is as good as bright, really realizing a rich life? Nowadays, overseas countries, including the Nordic countries, can feel the culture of lights with a far more shady shade.
In restaurants in the United States, it is so dark that you can't even know if they are open from the outside of the store, and the only lights are the candles on the table. At first, it felt dark, but gradually the conversation started, and when I realized it, I remember staying for a long time until closing.
Unexpectedly, the darker people don't care about unnecessary noise around you, so you can concentrate on the meal and conversation in front of you, and as a result, you can spend a very comfortable time.
I've heard it before, but it seems that restaurants sometimes make it uncomfortable on purpose to increase the turnover rate.
In a space with a calm atmosphere, customers stay for a long time and don't make any money, so it's more efficient to shine brightly with fluorescent lights like during the day and leave quickly after eating.
In the same way in the workplace, it tends to be brighter anyway because the more dazzling as a factory has higher labor productivity.
Because I usually spend a long time in such an environment, I tend to focus only on efficiency, and if I compare it to a set meal restaurant, it is "price rather than taste" and "don't have to wait".
Because it is such an era, I think it is necessary to regain the original sense of aesthetics that enjoys the loneliness like "Yinying Reizan".
I want to bring back the world of shadows that we have already lost, at least in our homes.
Deepen the cypress of the building, push what is too visible into the darkness, and peel off the unnecessary interior decoration.
Unless I do, I feel like there is no way to know what the real "comfortable light" is like.
