I wrote about the history of lighting in the previous column (https://www.inthelightinteriors.com/post/episode_56), but with economic growth, the lighting is brighter and the color temperature is also It's getting more expensive.
Fluorescent lamps have become popularized with economic growth that began in the 1960s, but as the economic growth of the right shoulder has stopped and the time is changing to be more efficient LEDs, the brightness and color temperature of the lighting are also gradually It's starting to go down.
In recent years, in Japanese houses, the mainstream has changed from the pale daylight light emitted by ceiling lights using fluorescent lamps and LEDs to light bulb colors and warm whites with low color temperatures.
Until now, it has been said that "the brighter the brighter it is, the better", and the voices of people who seek the same brightness as during the day are changing little by little to the voices that seek atmosphere and comfort rather than brightness.
Until now, it has been common sense for both lighting and the economy to rise, and no one should have had any doubts about it.
However, everything has a limit, and it is impossible for it to continue endlessly.
The same is true for the brightness of lighting, and the light of fluorescent lamps born in the 1940s is bright and efficient enough. Nowadays, more efficient LEDs have appeared, but it certainly consumes less power than fluorescent lamps, but that has not made our lives better than ever.
It can be said that the function of lighting has matured to a certain extent, and the needs are changing to values such as universal impressions and scenes that people originally need rather than functions and costs beyond the necessary.
For the functionality that evolves infinitely with the times, the decorativeness such as the beauty and impression that people feel is constant. What is truly beautiful remains even beyond the ages.
However, decoration has also been repeatedly trended and weathered in past history.
History has proven so far that values and cultures that have gone too far gradually lose sight of the original pure purpose and gradually deteriorate.
At least, I think it can be said that people have begun to realize that there is an environment of "lights suitable for the night" from the previous values and culture of lighting that "the brighter the better".
We have just begun to make a new start in the lighting culture in search of the light of "just the right salt plum" in the true sense.
