Things That Go Together, Michael Anastassaides
This is the first monograph of Michael Anastassiades, the UK-based lighting and furniture designer. Originally published in 2019 as a hardcover edition that quickly sold out and went out of print, this new softcover edition features the same content with a redesigned cover.
The book takes as its starting point works from a 2019 exhibition, exploring Anastassiades’ approach to design. Objects that he discovered in nature or selected from his collections are carefully arranged to form a system of “constellations” and “harmonious relationships,” which the monograph captures.
Accompanying essays reflect on his formative years in Cyprus, the island’s natural environment, the influence of local artists, his exploration of psychological connections people share with everyday objects, and his deep understanding of the unpredictability of nature and design—not just in form and scale.
Contributions include texts by Alessandro Labottini, Elena Palpa, Emily King, Mario Garcia Torres, Yannis Toumazis, and Zoe Ryan, with photography by Finnish photographer Osma Havilati.
