This vintage chair was designed by Pierre Jeanneret, cousin of Le Corbusier, for the 1951 Chandigarh urban plan in India. Jeanneret spent approximately 14 years in pre-industrial India, designing chairs using locally available wood and well-ventilated rattan materials.

Furniture designed for Chandigarh in the 1950s–60s includes dozens of chair types. Since multiple workshops produced them, even chairs with the same design show subtle individual differences. Today, the export of these pieces from India is prohibited to preserve cultural heritage, making chairs already taken abroad extremely rare and highly collectible.
