This is a vintage chair manufactured by the French company Steiner, designed in 1954 by French designer Pierre Guariche. It is notable for being one of the first chairs in France to be produced using bent plywood. The very thin 4.8mm plywood is extremely lightweight and features a natural flexibility, giving the chair a subtle “springiness.” The name “Ton” comes from the French word for barrel, referencing the chair’s barrel-like shape. The seat is upholstered in the original red synthetic leather.
