The Tonneau Chair, designed by French designer Pierre Guariche and manufactured by Steiner, is known as the first chair manufactured in France using plywood in 1953. Made from a single, extremely thin piece of plywood (4.8mm thick), it is extremely light and its soft flexibility is its greatest feature. Tonneau (tonneau) is French for barrel, and the chair is called the Tonneau Chair because of its barrel-like appearance.
