This is a monograph on the Chinati Foundation, a contemporary art museum established in 1986 by American artist Donald Judd in the desert region of Marfa, Texas. The book comprehensively documents the collection housed across the 340-acre site. Originally published in 2010 through a collaboration between the Chinati Foundation and Yale University Press, this edition was edited and authored by the current director Marianne Stockebrand, with a new cover, and released as a revised edition in 2020.

Covering both the museum’s history and a catalogue of its collection, this book is the only publication focused solely on the Chinati Foundation, making it an essential resource for researchers, students, and visitors to the museum. The second edition includes a new chapter on Robert Irwin’s permanent installation untitled (dawn to dusk), added to the collection in 2016. The appendix features artists’ bibliographies, records of the Foundation’s special exhibitions, and details of its Artist-in-Residence program, reflecting approximately ten years of activity since the first edition. Texts by Jenny Moore, director of the Chinati Foundation, are also included. This edition was published to coincide with Donald Judd’s retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in March 2020.
