The "Eames Shell Chair," a hallmark of mid-century design, was originally created by Charles and Ray Eames and first presented in 1948 at the "Low-Cost Furniture Design Competition" hosted by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. From 1953 through the 1990s, Herman Miller manufactured and sold the fiberglass version of the shell chair, which was later switched to polypropylene in 2001. This piece is a vintage fiberglass model from the 1960s, made by Herman Miller as a 2nd model, with both the shell and base remaining in their original condition—a rare find.
