When opening a new showroom

On January 24, 2021, a gallery and studio for lighting and interior was opened in Musashigaoka, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City.

From the interior design, I did everything myself, from the veneers made of real teak and interiors with Italian and imported tiles, to vintage and current lighting and furniture collected from all over the world, as well as art and books. In addition, the storage wall (commonly known as CSS), which was manufactured and sold by Herman Miller in the United States from 1950 to 1973, was revived in combination with the original cabinet of <IN THE LIGHT> produced for the first time. The store is packed with many new tips for building a house that has never been seen before.

With the theme of warmth, knowledge and newness, we mixed new and old things, and expressed the lifestyle itself that went beyond the framework of interior design, including proposals for a different lifestyle than before, including the use of lighting. I think I showed my own answer to the question of "what is a truly rich life" rather than just creating a stylish space.

I talked to the interior shop I met for the first time on the opening day, and he said that the keyword "rich life" that often appears when talking about interiors makes me feel a little uncomfortable about this. I haven't been able to dispel the image of "rich life = motivation to buy luxury furniture" for a long time, and I thought there was no more appropriate word.

Some of those who have seen this interior design may feel that the threshold is higher than ever and it is difficult to enter, but it was never made with the aim of a high-end interior, and of course it is set up to sell expensive products. It's not.

In fact, the walls of my parents' house, which was built 50 years ago, are made of veneers, and the walls of the bathroom and toilets are tiled, but I don't see much of them in today's houses.

From that point of view, we thought that this renovation would create a completely new value by reviving the details that are no longer seen now and remaking them in a modern atmosphere.

At the same time, we created it in the hope that a new trend would be created in Japanese housing while incorporating things such as how to use lighting and Western culture that uses old things well. It is true that it may be expensive for a general store interior decoration, but it is not to make it look good, but to enjoy the aging changes that only real materials have. Therefore, I think that there is an atmosphere that can be created because of this interior design, and I believe that there is something that can be conveyed because it has been so particular.

Even if someone else decides to rent this store, if someone wants to rent it because of this interior, it's worth it, it's worth doing this far, and it's all for the benefit of work.

In the construction industry, where scrap & build has been commonplace so far, I hope that this showroom will be an opportunity for manufacturing that will be passed on to the next generation with the power of design.
