What is the meaning of design?

There are many designers in the world. Graphic designers, product designers, architectural designers, fashion designers, etc...

However, many of the things that are overflowing in the world are just superficial designs, and I feel like I have lost sight of the meaning of what the design is for.

For example, in the world of architectural design, people are too trapped in the design of the exterior, and people who actually use it often feel uncomfortable. Fashion is the same, no matter how self-expressive you are, a smug outfit only gives others an unpleasant impression. There are many graphic designs that are careful and easy to copy.

Many of such designs are just a place for the designer's ego and self-expression, and designs that only sell quirkiness, designs that give people an unpleasant impression, and designs that have nothing to do with the content, copies of designs, etc. Designs that want others to pay attention to but only for their sake are like vulgar commercials that suddenly appear in front of you and are forced to show off.

All designs that touch people's eyes have meaning only when they have a relationship with others. It is because everything in shape is born with some kind of purpose. And because the final form of the purpose is expressed by the design.

I believe that the ultimate design is in art.

Art is not a necessity, and that alone is of no use. Even so, the reason why artists do not disappear is because there are people who feel that they need it.

There is something in really great art that appeals to people's hearts. It's not just that the work is beautiful or good or bad, the moment you see it, your emotions are shaken, and you may be moved to the point of overturning your previous values.

A work that can shake people's emotions and have an impact, even if it is not a necessity, will be irreplaceable for the viewer.

Because the most important thing is what the artist wanted to convey to people and created the work, and those thoughts and ideas are expressed in the form of the work.

A good-looking design attracts people's attention and interest, but no matter how good the design is, it is worthless without content. A really good design has the purpose of proposing new values to people, and it is to create a "trigger" to make them aware of it.

The most important thing for designers is what kind of relationship they want to build with people and society through design, and I think that is the original meaning of design.
