The ideal relationship between people and light (Part 2)

In the first part, I told you two points that the ideal relationship between people and light is "living according to the providence of nature" and "it is better to keep the lights at night with a low color temperature and moderation", but in the second part, "what kind of lights and sky actually I would like to write with the point that "Is it okay to do it in between?"

In Japan, long-term economic growth is considered to enrich people, and by increasing the population and increasing the income of the people, it is a mechanism that creates new demand and grows the economy. In order to popularize many of them, it has been important to be efficient and low-cost.

In such a society, the idea of how to quickly supply high-quality things in large quantities has been prioritized, and as a result, the original human cultural creation has been made.

As a result, it was born a culture that makes easy design copies good and the cycle of mass production and mass disposal. In such a society, there is no inheritance of traditional culture or the creation of a new culture, and only temporary abundance remains.

At first glance, it may seem like a story that has nothing to do with lights, but in fact, the way of thinking about lights is deeply related to this event.

When I am consulted about lighting, I often talk about the difference between family restaurants and Starbucks lights as an easy-to-understand analogy. While the former is the use of lights that efficiently illuminate the whole thing brightly, Starbucks uses light and dark well by placing spot lights where necessary. Of course, this will change the atmosphere of the store, but in fact, the result of thinking about what customers will do in that place creates a "different way of using lights".

Family restaurants are basically places where meals are served, and similar seats are lined up in the restaurant, and the lights are illuminated regardless of day or night.

Do you go to Starbucks just to drink coffee?

There are various people who chat with friends, have work meetings, and even study and work individually. Natural light shines in the dim store during the day, and when it gets dark, you can enjoy various types of seats surrounded by warm lights.

These two are included in the same restaurant, but there is a difference in the idea that family restaurants provide meals and Starbucks provide places.

In other words, the question of "what kind of light space should I make" is to think about "how I want to spend my time in that place".

Most of the lights in previous homes have been planned with the idea of "brightening efficiently at a low cost". Even if the lighting equipment changes from ceiling lights to downlights, people's basic ideas about lighting, such as illuminating the entire room as brightly as during the day, have not changed. It is easy to incorporate fashionable cafe-style lights, but I think "how do you want to live" is more important than the superficial atmosphere.

Thinking about the lights of your home also leads to thinking about "how to live your life", and I think it is a very meaningful and important thing.

Why don't you think about it carefully?
