Lighting and architecture

I started designing lighting when I was entrusted with the lighting planning of an acquaintance's housing company. When it comes to lighting plans for houses, it is common to be proposed by the person in charge of the lighting manufacturer based on the architectural drawings written by the designer, but at the housing company there, I proposed a basic lighting plan along with the electrical drawings.

At first, I proposed a lighting plan centered on downlights, but just as I was gradually looking for a more unique way of lighting, I decided to renovate the inn. All of the inns were separated with private open-air baths, so all 14 rooms were decorated with a different design.

Of course, the lighting plan also changes from room to room, but downlights and indirect lighting alone did not change much, and the lighting tended to be uniform even though the interior was different for each room. Therefore, when we incorporated things that the lighting fixtures themselves claimed, such as pendant lights, bracket lights, and stand lights, which had not been proposed much in houses before, the concept of each room became clearer.

This is the reason why I became aware of lighting design.

As a result, I began to think about lighting that asserts the individuality of the house in the house lighting plan, but in the current house lighting, the mainstream idea is that the equipment is good enough to have no sense of presence. However, as in the example of the previous inn, the fewer the elements that make up the building, the less individuality. Like clothes like UNIQLO and MUJI, it's not interesting to have a uniform residence.

When staying at a hotel or inn, the places that leave an impression are always equipped with a lighting plan with a good atmosphere. There is no special lighting equipment used there, and there are high-quality lights that are not in a space that is illuminated brilliantly from the ceiling.

It's the same in houses, and I think it feels like everyday life has become a little richer just by creating a space where you can enjoy the lights, not a bright and bright space as before.
